Reformatting and install of operating system

Consists of reinstalling Windows OS, Virus Scanner, and Windows Updates. Student will be responsible for all other software installations.

PLEASE NOTE:
Students will need their Windows Product ID key (series of numbers and letters). A reinstallation of the Windows operating system CANNOT be done without this key. This key is usually a sticker located on the back, side, or underneath your computer case or laptop.

Tutoring for hardware installs

We will provide assistance with installing defective or additional hardware components for student computers.

Hardware Troubleshooting

We will troubleshoot suspected hardware problems including power supplies, video cards, sound cards, hard drives, motherboards, floppy drives, CD-ROM drivers, network cards, keyboards, and mice.

File backup

In the event of a reinstallation of the Windows OS, an attempt will be made to backup student files. We will not be held responsible for loss of personal files. It is the student's responsibility to maintain a backup of files on a regular basis to some sort of removable media such as a CD-RW or ZIP disk. Click here for a tutorial on how to back up files.

All students seeking these services will be required to bring their computer to the ResComp Help Desk location between the hours of 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM Monday - Friday or by special appointment via email or @ ext 5269.

Note: If you have a Desktop computer we will ONLY need the computer itself. Meaning NO monitor, mouse, keyboard, cables, etc. For laptops, make sure you have the power supply.
