However, the longer a computer system is connected and active on the web the more likely it will experience slowness and popups.  Some forms of adware/spyware are malicious and categorized as viruses.   The freeware programs above can help get your system cleaned up and running like it should.  Get in a habit of doing a cleanup about once a month.

Viruses are intended to be malicious.  Getting viruses usually cost the user valuable time and sometimes money.  The first recommendation for virus protection is to keep your operating system up-to-date.  Part of your OS update includes updating of Windows Defender which is inherent in Windows 10 and 8.1. Security Essentials will also be updated once install on Windows 7. Windows 7 users can get protected by downloading and installing Microsoft Security Essentials.  The second recommendation is to refrain from clicking on links in suspicious emails and while browsing suspicious websites.  Both are notorious ways of getting infected.  Use common sense.
